Details: In 1854, the territory of Kansas was opened up for settlement. Large numbers of settlers came from South Carolina.

There were also hundreds of armed militant abolitionists who came to Kansas. They vowed to prevent Kansas from becoming a slave state by force.

Settlers from South Carolina formed two militias to protect themselves from abolitionist vigilantes. One was called the Palmetto Guard and the other was the South Carolina Minutemen.

This was the flag of the Palmetto Guard.

3'x5' flag. All sewn and embroidered. 100% cotton. White header with two grommets. Four rows of stitching on the fly.

3'x5' flags are 3ft x 5ft, 36in. by 60in, 91cm by 152cm, 1yard by 1.7yard. This is the most common size flag you see hanging on porches, small flag poles, hanging at festivals, and inside of bars and restaurants.
