Y Ddraig Goch - "The Red Dragon"
|
|
Allegedly used by King Arthur,
and used for certain by 8th centruy Wessex Lords. The red dragon
is believed to have been inspired by Roman gold dragon standards,
and has been a popular emblem of the Britons and Saxons since
the dark ages. Adopted as the National flag of Wales in 1950.

In Arthurian Legend, Merlin
describes a red dragon who rises from the dead to crush a white
dragon. Popular Welsh myth states that this represents Welsh defiance
of English Imperialism.
